To elevate the existing AWS Girls’ Tech Day event which aims to inspire and motivate girls and young women to pursue STEAM–Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. We were tasked with expanding on existing workshops and the overall experience in order to create more dynamic learning opportunities that would encourage the girls to dive into fields they may not have considered otherwise.
Girls from all over the San Jose area had a day full of fun and discovery at 2023’s Girl’s Tech Day, where they got a taste of what a career in STEAM could look like. The excitement kicked off with tons of arts-and-crafts activities where the students could show off their creativity through bracelet making and swag personalization!
A local dance troupe’s performance brought the energy and hyped up the crowd for our panelists who were all leaders in AWS, Amazon Music, Ring, and Twitch. These experts in STEAM shared their experiences of what it’s like as a woman in these fields and encouraged the girls to find a passion of their own to explore.
The girls then divided into groups to participate in leader-led workshops which covered topics from using forensic science to analyze a crime scene to working as a team to solve a game of life-sized sudoku! During lunch, the girls received a cup of galaxy lemonade where they could see chemical reactions change the color of a beverage before their eyes.
